  • Am I physically capable of undertaking this tour?

    • You must be capable of walking independently for 2 hours and be able to manage up and down stairs and uneven surfaces.  It is unsuitable for anyone in wheelchairs, or anyone requiring walking aides, pushchairs not allowed.

  • How long does it take?

    • The tour itself will take approximately 2 hours, and you will need to be checked in to your tour as well, so the first 30 minutes is for registration and a safety briefing

  • Where do I start and finish the tour?

    • The tour starts and finishes at the same place, Clyde Dam Tour Office at 18 Sunderland St, Clyde (Clyde Village Store).

  • Is it ok for Kids?

    • Yes provided that children under the age of 15 are adequately supervised by an accompanying adult and each child under the age of 5 has an individual supervising adult, ie 1 child: 1 adult.  No pushchairs are allowed, but slings and packs are ok for babies.  There is no facility for attending to a baby’s needs whilst on the tour.

  • What footwear and clothing do I need to wear?

    • Because you will be walking around, in & outside the dam and on uneven surfaces, please wear suitable footwear, ie  fully secured.  So no jandals/thongs, sandals or platformed footwear.

    • Wear clothing weather appropriate on the day of your tour. Part of the tour occurs outdoors where you are exposed to sun, rain and wind.

  • What can we bring with us, what do we need?

    • you are welcome to bring a water bottle and a camera

    • No loose items are allowed, so no handbags/bags/packs, pushchairs, photography equipment except that which can be attached to you with a strap, or put in a pocket

    • No food is allowed

  • I’m claustrophobic, will there be any areas that might be a problem for me?

There are a couple of areas that someone who is claustrophobic might potentially feel uncomfortable in.

  • Inside the Gallery – which is the tunnel inside the Dam wall.  It is very well lit, is about 50m long, and once inside you are only able to exit through either end.  It is essentially a U shape so the entry and exit are not visible when walking the length of the wall

  • Inside the slip joint – this is another narrower (2.5m wide x 20m high) space that opens into the wall and allows you to walk to the lake-side face of the wall.  You are able to see the exit at all times

  • Inside the turbine or generator.  It is a circular room about 10m in diameter, and has the working turbine shaft and equipment visible and in the centre.  You enter and exit through the same door and walk around the wall. It is very well lit.

  • If any of these areas are of concern to you, please contact us to discuss before booking your tour.

  • Can I take photos or videos?

    • You are welcome to take photos or videos in all areas with the exception of the control room, providing your equipment is simple and able to be attached to your body via some kind of strap or put in your pocket.  No loose items or extra gear is to be carried on the tour.

  • Can I leave my personal belongings anywhere?

    • There is no secure place to leave personal items when you are on the tour.  So these are best left secured in your own vehicle.  Should this not be possible for you, please contact us to discuss other arrangements.

  • Are there bathroom facilities available whilst on the tour?

    • No, there are no bathroom facilities available

  • Are there any health restrictions that I need to let you know about?

    • Yes.  If you have a pacemaker we need to be informed of this.  Although it is safe to visit the dam, there are areas that emit low magnetic energy, and some access restrictions are observed.

  • We’ve been drinking are we able to take the tour?

    • No.  There is a strict NO ALCOHOL and NO DRUGS policy.  You will not be permitted to take the tour if you are under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs.

  • Can we cancel or change our booking?

    • Yes.  You can cancel or change your booking up to 48 hours in advance of the start time of your tour for a full refund.

    • For our full cancellation policy check  with our staff.
